Process for Degree Project

| A MassArt faculty member took a group of students to do cadaver drawing at a medical center in Boston. It was a very interesting experience. |
Degree Project
At the time that I started my Illustration Degree Project I was torn between food and medical/archaeological illustration. I ended up choosing the medical/archaeological subject matter (and, through this process, discovered that food illustration was much more fulfilling for me). I chose to research the smallpox epidemic of 1721- it was a subject that not many people are familiar with and was really interesting to research.
I chose to work in a woodblock print style that I've always wanted to try, and seemed to fit with the time period. I enjoy the pieces now, but I struggled all throughout the image making. Needless to say I don't think I will be working like this in the future. The following are my final pieces- I'll also post some process work.

Haystack. It was glorious.
This was from a combination of references from the MassArt trip to Haystack Mountain School of Arts and Crafts. They fed us so well. What an amazing trip. And in addition the location is gorgeous.
It's a little late, but...
Yep, Christmas has passed... but the deadline for this competition has not! One more day: Greeting Card Competition. This piece was also used for my annual Christmas contribution- the Cady Family Christmas card.

New territory!
Jumping into my first blogging experience! How could it be that as a senior in college my social networking has never progressed past Facebook? That being said, please excuse this blog's appearance for the next couple of weeks as I work out the design!
